Knitting for the Needy Knitted items of clothing, rugs and baby layettes are donated to community groups and individuals. Our knitters rely on donations of wool from our friends and supporters and we have also received wool from sponsors 'Spotlight' and assistance and wool from Karen Croke, co-ordinator of 'Knitting for Brisbane's Needy'. Love & Care Project Calico bags containing toiletries, toothbrush, toys, childrens' art supplies and activities and clothing for boys or girls, in various sizes, are left at Police Stations and Community Services facilities around Brisbane, Qld., for use by children who are taken into foster care because their parent/s have been taken into Police custody or have been placed in drug or alcohol rehabilitation facilities. These children often arrive at foster carers without any suitable clothing or personal care items because of the urgent or unusual nature or speed or timimg of their parent/s arrest. Our Club cannot collect all the items that are necessary in the large numbers needed, so have joined the Love & Care Project team as suppliers of various components that are included in the Care bags. Christine Purdie
Operation Christmas Child Project Christmas presents for children are collected and placed into 'shoe boxes', for distribution to needy children in Australia and overseas. The co-ordinator tries to include something to wear, something to use for healthcare, (e.g., toothbrush or soap), something to play with, (e.g., small toy), something to learn, (e.g. book or art/drawing/writing supplies), or any other useful unused or new items for children that are unbreakable, leak-proof, non-toxic and will fit in a shoebox. Theatre Nights The Brighton Theatre Company offers Community groups free tickets on a rotational basis, for a full dress rehearsal on the night before a new play opens. Clubs can sell the tickets to Club members and the public as a way to fundraise.

The BTC currently runs 4 plays a year, with additional play reading nights regularly as well. Check our website at: www.brightontheatreco.com for more information. Benigna Avallone
