CABOOLTURE PS
'TERRIFIC KIDS' PRESENTATIONS

Scholastic Term 1, 2008 'Terrific Kids' Award
Recipients presented by Club Members Carmen & Peter Aebersold at
Caboolture PS QLD School Assembly

Term 2, 2008 'Terrific Kids' Award Recipient

CONGRATULATIONS!
Term 4 2008
Terrific Kids Program Award Presentation

Kiwanis Bayside Internet Club Members Peter and Carmen
Aebersold's comments regarding this final Terrific Kids Program
Award Presentaion for the 2008 scholastic year at Caboolture
State Primary School include the following:
"Term 4 Terrific Kid is a year 6 boy who was totally wrapped
to become a Terrific Kid and liked his prizes, which included
the Andy Griffith book, "What Bumosaur is That?", and a really
cool LCD projection watch that projects time and date and
seconds. One of the teachers told us how great it was to have
the Terrific Kids banner hanging in her classroom the previous
term, and how her class were much more responsive and better
behaved. The Principal was reassured when we confirmed that we
will continue Terrific Kids in 2009, and presented Carmen and I
School gifts. As you can see by the first photo, the Assembly
was packed and there were quite a few parents attending. We
urge all members to look at Terrific Kids if you have a school
nearby that will run the program. It is really inspiring to see
the kids getting their merit awards, etc., especially when we
hear and read so much negative publicity about student
misbehaviour and lack of academic achievement."
WELL DONE CARMEN &
PETER!

KNITTING & CROCHETING FOR THE
NEEDY

Club Members Busy Bees
Carmen Aebersold from Caboolture
Queensland Knitters Workshop spends Saturday afternoons making
blankets for the homeless, women's refuges and destitute
families. Carmen also knits items of clothing at home, for the local
needy families.
Bev Hill from Shepparton Victoria
spends hours knitting and crocheting for new born babies, homeless youth,
and elderly patients in nursing homes. Her beautiful work is depicted below.

Bev's 10 knee rugs for the elderly were donated to "Mayflower"
Nursing Home in East Brighton Victoria. The rest of Bev's
handiwork has been donated to newborn babies and homeless youth
cared for by the "Good Shepherd Youth and Family
Service" in Melbourne Victoria. Bev's scarves, beanies, and gloves sets
for 13 homeless
youth, the 10 knee rugs, and 6 cot blankets/baby shawls have all been
greatly appreciated by all. The crocheted baby cot blankets/shawls
were included in the "Baby Bundles" donated to unmarried, teenage,
drug-addicted new mothers.
Quite recently, Chris Purdie, also from Queensland,
has knitted various items which she has donated to be sold at the
Club Garage Sales in Melbourne, all proceeds from which go to the
Club's Community Service projects.

HEARTKIDS PARENTS PRECINCT AT
RCH MELBOURNE proudly supported by Kiwanis
Bayside e-Club Members
In March 2006, Kiwanis Australia Division 6 Clubs,
at the suggestion of the then incumbent Lt Governor, decided to take
on the refurbishing of a new Heartkids Parents Precinct at the Royal
Children Hospital in Melbourne, as a divisional project.
Various submissions to furniture and electrical stores were written,
resulting in 'Harvey Norman' donating a large refrigerator.
Individual Members donated various other small items, and the rest
were purchased with proceeds from a huge raffle organised by the
Kiwanis Club of Doncaster-Templestowe in Melbourne. Each Club was
allocated 3 books of raffle tickets per member.
Kiwanis Bayside e-Club Members in Melbourne were
handed books of unsold tickets to sell. The Club had just been
organised then.
The Heartkids Parents Precinct at RCH Melbourne was
officially opened in July 2008. A Kiwanis plaque was presented at
the Launch, which was attended by some Kiwanians representing
Division 6 Clubs, the new Heartkids Manager at RCH, Kiwanis
Australia District Heartkids Project Chair, and Heartkids Parents.
Much contentment and appreciation was shown by the
Cardiac Ward Staff , and especially the Heartkids Parents who are
enjoying the comfort and privacy in the refurbished rooms, thanks to
Kiwanis Australia Division 6 nine Clubs.

KIWANIS ASSIST BUNNINGS
POLICE/COMMUNITY PROJECT
October 2008

When our Fundraising Director Margie was approached by her
local Bunnings Warehouse store, for Kiwanis assistance with their
Community Service project in partnership with the local Police, she called on her team of "Friends of
Kiwanis " volunteers to help her.
The project involved affixing car number plates with security
screws/pop rivets to prevent the theft of number plates and the
fraudulent use of number plates.
A great day was had by all and closer relationships forged with the
Police, SES, Bunnings and the local community.
This project did not cost our Club anything as the Police provided
the security screws which were donated by Bunnings.
In the future, when more time is available to organise properly, we
could have Sausage Sizzle rights as a Club Fundraiser while these
activities take place in the Bunnings carpark.
There is also the potential for this project to expand throughout
Victoria if other Kiwanis Clubs take up this cause.

clothes]

BBQ/BOATING COMMUNITY SERVICE FUN
EVENT
2 November 2008

A happy group of Asylum Seekers families and their Care Group
Leaders were treated to a fabulous afternoon at Albert Park Lake,
South Melbourne. by Albert Sailing Club in partnership with Kiwanis
Bayside Internet Club. Two big "Status" Class Sailing boats and one
Rescue Boat (rubber ducky) manned by experienced ASC sailors toured
around the lake several times, soon
after all the guests and volunteers enjoyed a barbecue lunch
prepared and served by the small group of Kiwanians and their
helpers. We had two barbecues going, one for Hallal meat provided
for the Islamic faith guests. A "prayer-room" was also set up in one
of ASC 's offices, and greatly appreciated by the Muslims.
Seen here are some of the 40 guests in two of the boats, and others
enjoying a skipping rope game, including parents. children and staff
members.
The amicable ambience shared by people from different cultures,
backgrounds and religious faiths was a great experience and very
encouraging to all
involved. This is the kind of atmosphere which promotes
acceptance, assimilation and excellent rapport in a multi-cultural
society.
This event, like the one held last January for the Autistic Children
and their families, is being promoted as an annual event, organised
by Beni and the ASC.

CLUB DINNER: PRESENTATIONS & CELEBRATIONS
A function at the Dingley International Hotel, held on the 16
October 2008 allowed most of the Victorian based members of the
Kiwanis Internet Club of Bayside to meet face to face two
Queensland e-Club members who were travelling through Melbourne.
The photo depicts L to R, Margie Gray (organiser), and Kevin
Woods, Carmen Aebersold and Beni Avallone who were presented with
awards on behalf of the Internet Club of Bayside.
A measure of the important role that Internet Clubs may fill in
the future of Kiwanis Australia District, was the presence at
the dinner of three Past Australia District Governors: Bill
Craig, Kevin Wood, and Geoff Hill, accompanied by their
respective spouses, namely Heather Craig,
Ann Wood, and Bev Hill. Both Bev and Geoff are
currently Kiwanis Bayside Internet Club Members.
Kevin was presented with with a certification of appreciation
for the work he did for Kiwanis Bayside Internet Club during his
Membership with the Club.

FIRST INTERCLUB MEETING
Kiwanis Internet Club of Bayside
and Kiwanis Club of Deniliquin NSW.
20 October 2008
Following an enjoyable meal at the Deniliquin RSL Club Bistro,
Guests Rick and Elaine Walker joined Deniliquin Kiwanis
President Lynette Baker, Vice- President Phillip Griffiths and
his wife Gloria, and Internet Club of Bayside Members Peter and
Carmen Aebersold, for a scheduled meeting of the Kiwanis
Internet Club of Bayside. Peter and Carmen logged on to the
internet from the RSL bistro using a Laptop computer with a USB
Wireless Broadband connection, while other Internet Club members
logged in to the meeting from NSW, QLD, ViIC, and SA.
The Deniliquin members were very interested to see how the
Internet Club conducted a meeting and were impressed by the
member activity over a wide range of projects, and appreciated
the opportunity to learn about the Internet Club which they had
heard of but had no idea how it operated.
Internet Club of Bayside members welcome other traditional Clubs
to participate in an interclub meeting. Internet Clubs are a
medium that can enable Kiwanians who retire to areas without a
Kiwanis Club to continue to participate in community activities,
and maintain long held Kiwanis friendships.
Any interested Clubs, or individuals, can contact President
Elect and Webmaster Beni Avallone at: benigna@alphalink.com.au,
who will be pleased to provide a Login and PIN to allow access
to the members area of the Internet Club website at : www.e-kiwanisbayside.org.au
